Zoology is the study of the kingdom Animalia. Students will become aware of the world of animals and their interrelationships through the process of evolution, develop an understanding of the significance of the diversity of life and the balance of nature, and examine the physiological and morphological characteristics of animals that allow them to survive in their environment. Students also work in groups to raise a single animal or a habitat of animals to help illustrate the concepts taught throughout the course. The class is taught by Mr. Holder.

The Fairchild Challenge is a multidisciplinary, environmental education outreach program designed to give school students an opportunity to shine. By appealing to their innate sense of creativity and curiosity about the world around them, The Fairchild Challenge invites students to learn, to investigate environmental issues, to devise imaginative and effective responses to these issues and to take action, at any level, to address them. The Fairchild Challenge offers a variety of categories for which students can express their talents: Drama, Art, Science, Research, Debate, Fashion and more. The South Plantation Magnet Program has been a regular participant in The Fairchild Challenge for five years and has been crowned first place for the past three years. The competition is supervised by Mrs. Krauss.

Students are given the option to pursue a unique project path alongside a specific mentor. Students can work with Dr. Culpepper on the Magnet Annual Report, or the Magnet Gala Slideshow. Students can also work with other mentors to pursue their own unique interests. Students are still required to create a presentation for their project to showcase what they have learned throughout their experiences.
